We have an exciting opportunity for a talented junior researcher with strong quantitative background and programming skills to join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of Imperial College London, to work on the area of spatio-temporal statistics.
Funded by the Wellcome Trust, the successful candidate will work on an international project on “Spatio-temporal dynamics of arboviral diseases in Brazil in a changing climate”. This is a collaboration between the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Infectious Disease Epidemiology of Imperial College with the Department of Epidemiology of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and the Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Toronto (Canada).
By taking advantage of multiple data sources, the successful applicant will work at the development of a spatio-temporal approach grounded within a Bayesian framework with the following key goals: (i) to examine the spatial distribution and temporal dynamics of arboviral diseases (dengue and chikungunya) in relationship to climatological factors, in presence of changes in the local environmental conditions, (ii) to predict the probability of outbreak of the diseases in space through time with quantified uncertainty.
